The Fair Trade Federation Invades Austin, TX!

April 2, 2008 · 2 Comments

This weekend, the 2008 Fair Trade Federation Conference will be held in Austin at the Wyndham Garden Hotel.  All are welcome, and while there is a conference registration fee, there is a very exciting event at the conference that is FREE and open to the public!

On Saturday, April 5, from 3:30-6:00 PM, the conference will host a Fair Trade Expo where the public can purchase fair trade goods from 27 different FTF vendors.  As a companion to that event, at 4:00 PM, Jackie DeCarlo, author of “A Beginner’s Guide to Fair Trade,” will be presenting an introduction to fair trade.

These are both very exciting opportunities for Austinites and anyone attending the conference!  This conference has been held all over North America for nearly 30 years, so it’s very special to us here in Austin to be hosting this event.

Even if you can’t make it this weekend, you can still do your part to support fair trade.  Visiting us at Ten Thousand Villages would be a great way to do just that.  Or, when shopping around town, look for the logo!

Thanks Villages friends for the shout out! Anybody who has read my book knows I am a big fan of TTV!

I am definitely looking forward to being in Austin not only because FTF friends and colleagues will be there, but because I want to experience the wonderful culture I’ve heard so much about. Part of that will be visiting the only feminist bookstore in Texas: Bookwoman. I’ll be there tonight, Thursday, at 7:00. All are welcome to turn out to discuss how Austin values mirror Fair Trade values. BookWoman is at 5501 North Lamar #A-105
(between North Loop and Koenig Ln.) 512-472-2785.

Looking forward to all these great ways to celebrate Fair Trade in Austin!
    Jackie

You’re very welcome, Jackie! I hope you enjoy your visit to Austin this weekend. I’ll be manning the store tomorrow, so I unfortunately won’t make your presentation, but hopefully you’ll be able to find time to stop by the store this weekend! -Taylor
