There are several trade shows scheduled for this summer and later this year that will feature fair trade items certified by the Fair Trade Federation.  If you will be in or around one of these cities, you should definitely check out a trade show!

Summer and Fall Shows Include:

  • Chicago Gift and Home Show, Chicago Merchandise Mart, July 19-22
  • California Gift Show, Los Angeles Convention Center, July 18-21
  • San Francisco International Gift Fair, Moscone Center, July 26-29
  • New York International Gift Fair, Javits Convention Center, Aug 16-21
  • Natural Products Expo East, Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, October 16-18

Trade shows are definitely a great way to get a look at the broad spectrum of goods that are now available fair trade. It’s pretty tough to make any sense of the stuff that comes up when you search around online for “fair trade goods.” Of course, great, well-established organizations like Ten Thousand Villages are at the top of the search page, but what if you’re looking for something that they don’t offer? For anyone who’s looking for fair trade apparel but doesn’t have the chance to hit a trade show, I would recommend Just Apparel (http://www.justapparel.org). It’s a small organization, but I can personally vouch for the great work they’re doing down in Guatemala. Best of luck to all of you involved in fair trade!
