Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

I’m back after a long getaway to my home in Singapore where the heavy downpours were reminders of what it meant to have a monsoon season. (For a silver screen rendition of monsoon rains, I highly recommend Monsoon Wedding by Mira Nair.)

Regardless of whether you consider yourself a DIYer, the emotions of an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition gotta tag at your heartstrings. In early December, the Austin-based O’Donnell family was selected for an extreme makeover.

The O’Donnells—Jeanette, Patrick and their six children—will get a new home and the family technological and educational tools to help better meet the needs of their children, five of whom have autism. They are the only known family in America with five biological autistic children. (Meet the family.)

Ten Thousand Villages is one of the organizations, plus Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes and Dell, that was selected to donor items to the makeover. For the month of January, all items featured in the show will be 50 percent off at our store. Kitty will post more details, plus the air date of this episode which I believe is February 18, 7 p.m. CT, on ABC.
