Keys to Wearing a Scarf in the Summer
Here in Austin it may seem way too HOT to be sporting a scarf. I, Katie Smith, beg to differ.
I believe there are many ways you can rock a scarf during the months of May, June, July and August. However, there are a couple of key things you need to keep in mind to have a fabulous scarf filled summer.
1.) Keep it light.
Yes, we literally mean LIGHT. As in light weight. The last thing you need is a heavy cotton scarf around your neck when it is 100 degrees outside. Scarfs made of sheer materials like polyester or silk are sure to be less of a burden to your neck. When you are looking for a perfect summer scarf, you cannot go wrong as long as your LIGHT.
2.) Less is more.
Make the scarf your statement piece. The winter is all about layers and it’s very easy for your scarf to become a necessary layer. Summer scarfs do not add warmth and are purposely worn as an accessory. They key is to make your scarf the statement piece by carefully choosing the rest of your ensemble. Think less is more when it comes to your outfit. Non print blouses and pants match great with a printed scarf. Eliminate the extra jewelry and maybe pull your hair back. The less of a statement the other pieces of your outfit have, the more of a statement your scarf has. Get it?
3.) Be Bold.
Wear your scarf in abnormal ways. Now that we know our summer scarf should be our statement piece, it is time to experiment. Try your scarf has a shawl, headband, hair wrap, etc. Get CREATIVE! Do not be afraid of being bold. People will think you’re a trend-setter. Trust in the power of the summer scarf. It will make you brave and confident.
