Back to School in Fair Trade Fashion
It is that time of the year again. Kids are going back to school and summer is coming to a close. Many of you will be treating your kids or yourself to some new accessories. Why not make Ten Thousand Villages your first stop? After all everything you buy in our store helps someone else send their kids to school too. The perks of fair trade retail.
Here are a couple of the items that will make your child incredibly stylish. Prices and stories included.
First up, tablet cases and laptop covers. Many of the ones in our store are hand-woven in Vietnam by an artisan group called Craft Link. Craft Link focuses on employing ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. Personally I am in love with the green, white and blue patterned one. Not only are you helping someone by buying our products but the amount of creativity and time applied to each product is incomparable to most retail products on the market. Prices range from $34-$39.
Second, Messenger Bags. Over the shoulder and over sized bags are in right now. The artisan group in West Africa makes messenger bags using Bogolan, a traditional “mud cloth”. When they paint and dye the fabric, the artisans use mud to help set the paint. Then they wash away the dried mud and reveal a pattern. How cool! Prices range from $39-$49.
Next, Journals. School means pencils, pens and tons of paper. Most, if not all the journals we carry here at Ten Thousand Villages are made from recycled, handmade paper. Kids use so much paper during a school year that it is nice to know our artisans are taking the time to make eco friendly products. Prices range from $18-$34.
Lastly, Everything Else. From pens and pencils to rings and headbands. There is so much in our store your child can use to go back to school in fair trade fashion. So if you are shopping around this weekend, stop into our store and check out these products!
