The sangria’s in the back!
By Priscilla Luera, Events Intern
Happy Hour is a concept very familiar to Austinites. My young professional peers talk about their daily countdown to happy hour, but our Neighborhood Happy Hour last week meant something different. Our event was about community building, not escaping reality, and sharing our excitement about our new store with our neighbors. Every time a new guest was added to our Facebook event, my eyes lit up with excitement.
The Burnet Road neighborhood has been booming with new local businesses over recent years, so we figured it was time to have a networking event that welcomed all of our neighbors to mix and mingle. We invited local shoppers from our surrounding neighborhoods, but were also greeted by people from all over town. Some were first time visitors and others were familiar faces, but at the end of the day more people learned about fair-trade and what’s been happening on Burnet Road.
All of this could not have been possible without the support of our next door neighbors Fork and Taco, who provided amazing food and drinks, and The Love Sprockets band who played live all night. As soon as you entered the store, there were good vibes jamming from the band and folks from all around the neighborhood chatting and shopping, so the only question left to ask was “Where’s the sangria?”! The answer? In the back, along with margaritas, tasty taco bites, chips and queso, and delicious donut holes!
All local shoppers enjoyed a 10% discount throughout the evening, so many guests left with some fair trade goodies as well as a full tummy. A special thank you to our guests from local businesses Asberry’s A’Salon, The Assistance League, Top Drawer Thrift Store and Urban Patchwork for stopping by to meet their neighbors and contribute to building a vibrant Central Austin community!
