The Enchanted Field Tablecloth and accompanying napkins were block printed by hand in India by the artisans of Aravali, a company which supports the work of close to 150 artisans in the Jaipur area. The company works to preserve traditional block print motifs while often introducing a modern twist in design or color. Perfect for a nontraditional, fair trade spin on a summer gathering!
Fun fact: most of our table linens were block printed by hand. Block printing is a labor-intensive method of hand-printing fabrics, wherein artisans imprint the cloth with hand-carved wooden blocks.
Above is the Forest Drift Tablecloth and Napkins, brought to you by Asha Handicrafts Association. This forest foliage design is screen printed by hand in Mumbai. This fair trade organization, who’s name means “hope” in Sanskrit, represents over 6,500 individual and family-based artisans in ten states of India. The not-for-profit works to ensure that benefits of handicraft production reach the craftspeople themselves. You can play an important role in that process, all while entertaining your guests in style!
The Layered Frost Napkins and Tablecloth, seen above, are block printed by artisans of the Dastkar Ranthambore workshop in rural Rajasthan. They’re brought to our store by the All India Artisans and Craft Association (AIACA), which works with nonprofit and producer-owned artisan organizations in India. 65 different member groups benefit from marketing support, design training and capacity building assistance. You (and your kitchen table) can benefit too!
Here’s a glimpse at a few more designs, waiting for you in the store. This is a sale not to be missed. Happy entertaining!
